- Speaker: Prof. Weixin Huang
University of Science and Technology of China
Speaker Introduction
Prof. Weixin Huang is a professor in the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at the University of Science and Technology of China. His research focuses on solid surface and interface chemistry, multiphase catalytic reaction mechanisms, and metal–oxide nanocrystal catalysts.
In particular, he has utilized oxide nanocrystals with well-defined structures and crystal facets as model catalysts to bridge the gap between single-crystal surfaces and practical nanocatalysts. His main research topics include crystal facet effects, surface defects and oxygen vacancies, metal–oxide interfaces, catalyst restructuring under reaction conditions, CO activation, and hydrocarbon conversion.
Prof. Huang has collaborated with the research group of Prof. Youngku Sohn. Recently, they co-published a study on enhancing CO2 electroreduction and hydrocarbon chain growth through ligand–photon interactions on phenanthroline-modified Cu electrodes.
Main Research Areas
- Catalytic surface and interface chemistry
- Oxide nanocrystal model catalysts
- Metal–oxide interfaces and active-site identification
- CO activation, hydrogenation and Fischer–Tropsch chemistry
- CO2 reduction and carbon–carbon bond formation
- Surface spectroscopy and density functional theory
